Carla is Joint Artistic Director of all-female collective Bleeding Nora and Creative Associate for Studio Three Sixty. She is a Trustee of arts charity Dance Woking and dedicates much of her time to supporting their work and development. 

Her directorial work explores how to achieve empathy across political and cultural divides. She has presented work at venues including Theatre503, Oxford Playhouse, HighTide Festival, Finborough Theatre, Old Red Lion, VAULT Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe, and has worked extensively as an associate and assistant director both nationally and internationally. 

Her experience working on new plays extends from developing and directing new plays for production, to script reading and supporting devising processes. She has worked on short plays and readings by exciting new playwrights for companies and at venues such as The Bush, Pint-Sized, PLAY, Old Vic Theatre, Chelsea Theatre, Clapham Omnibus and The Pleasance.

She has taught young actors for several years, and was formerly Head of Drama at JG Dance Academy in Oxfordshire. She is a passionate advocate for community and participatory arts and has run youth and community projects for organisations including Hoxton Hall, Young Vic and in association with Arts Council England. Other freelance teaching and facilitation work includes CSSD, ALRA and ArtsDepot.
